The Association Dones Progressistes has filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office of Ibiza against all the councilors of Vox and PP in Sant Josep. The letter focuses on two resolutions of the municipal plenary that, according to the association, could be framed as hate crimes. The president of the organization, DessirĆ© Ruiz Mostazo, formalized the complaint this Friday in the courts of Ibiza.
Motion to change the name of the street Margarita Roig ‘Llogat’.
The first action pointed out in the complaint dates back to November 2023, when the municipal plenary approved a motion to change the name of Margarita Roig ‘Llogat’ street , the only one with a female name in the municipality. Although the measure was never implemented due to an unfavorable technical report, the association considers that the proposal affected the historical memory of the municipality.
Removal of signs against gender-based violence
The second resolution that motivates the complaint is a motion filed by Vox in March this year, supported by the PP, to remove the purple signs installed in 2020 against male violence. According to the brief, these signs included messages such as “AquĆ se trabaja por la igualdad, ni una mĆ”s” (Here we work for equality, not one more) and the 016 helpline. The association points out that there is no technical report to support this withdrawal and points to an ideological approach behind the decision. The document also includes as a relevant element a statement in plenary session of the councilor of Vox, Araceli Colomar, who said that “gender violence does not exist”. This statement, according to the complaint, adds context to the decisions taken in the consistory. The complaint will now be analyzed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether the resolutions of the plenary session may constitute a hate crime.
