Two weeks later than initially planned, the Balearic Parliament will debate and vote in the plenary session this Tuesday the opinion of the decree law of administrative simplification, although so far there is no news on the agreement between PP and opposition on construction in flood zones. The opposition, integrated by PSIB, MÉS per Mallorca, Més per Menorca and Unidas Podemos, proposed to the Govern to revert the measures included in the decree, among them the legalization of buildings in risk areas, and return to the regulation that prohibits building in these areas. However, the PP, according to opposition sources, would have presented a counterproposal that insists on legalizing out-of-order buildings in flood zones. Although no significant progress has been made over the weekend, the left-wing groups have announced that this Monday, November 25, they will respond to the PP’s counter-proposal. Even so, they have reiterated their willingness to negotiate “until the last minute” and their commitment to “protect people’s lives”, an objective they consider incompatible with the legalization of constructions in risk areas. In the midst of the impasse, the left requested on Friday an urgent meeting with the president of the Balearic Government, Marga Prohens, to unblock the situation. However, the spokesman of the Govern and conseller, Antoni Costa, considered unnecessary the direct intervention of Prohens and assured that the Executive maintains the will to reach agreements. ” It is possible that there are differences in specific aspects, but no one would understand that for a specific disagreement consensus is not reached on other points,” argued Costa, who also expressed his confidence in the support of Vox, with whom the Govern already closed agreements in previous phases of the decree. With the vote just a few days away, negotiations are intensifying, and the outcome will depend on whether both parties manage to overcome key discrepancies.
