The Civil and Criminal Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) has ratified the sentencing of two men, both British nationals, to 16 years in prison for drug trafficking in Ibiza. The resolution dismisses the appeals filed by the defendants and upholds the initial sentence of the Provincial Court, which also imposed a fine of 945,000 euros on each of them.
The case: storage and distribution of drugs in Ibiza
The investigation revealed that the convicts operated between September and October 2023, engaging in the storage and distribution of large quantities of narcotics, including ketamine, cannabis, cocaine and MDMA. According to the magistrates, the findings in the searches carried out in a home, a warehouse and a container were decisive in proving their responsibility.
The searches found 502 grams of cocaine, 1,611 grams of ketamine and 2,782 grams of MDMA, as well as split and crumpled cash, which, according to the court, indicates that it came from the sale of the substances. The Court of Appeals considered the aggravated subtype in the conviction due to the large quantity of drugs seized.
Ratification of evidence and fundamental rights
The TSJIB rejected the arguments of the defense, which alleged a violation of the right to inviolability of the home and the lack of validity of the search warrants. The Chamber determined that the evidence was obtained in accordance with the law and that the evidence, analyzed as a whole, is sufficient to rebut the presumption of innocence. With this resolution, the TSJIB consolidates the initial sentence of eight years in prison for each defendant, underlining the seriousness of the crimes and the impact that these activities have on the community. This case, which began with an investigation declared secret, has culminated in a firm conviction that reaffirms the commitment of the institutions to the fight against drug trafficking in Ibiza.
