The eccentric Youcef Aden (Mohamed Youcef Ihaddaden), whose wanderings have been revealed by La Voz de Ibiza days ago, has resigned from the multiple political positions he claimed to publicly hold in Ibiza in supposed representation of the Nation of Hawaii, an organization that has no nation-state character and lacks international recognition as such. Until a few days ago, Aden officially presented himself as the ambassador, minister of the Treasury, minister of Foreign Affairs and director of the Financial Police Agency (Security and Crime) of the Nation of Hawaii from August 2021. At least that’s what he said to anyone who bumped into him and could also be seen on the plaques installed at the entrance of an office he has rented on the sixth floor of the vertical parking lot on Carlos III Street in Ibiza. Recently and after the publication of La Voz de Ibiza, Aden has retouched those plaques and has prefixed those positions with the prefix “-ex”, indicating that he no longer occupies the positions he claimed to occupy. It is striking, to say the least, that someone boasts of being an ‘ex-something’ and displays it at the doors of his office. After all, it is not common for a person to publicly highlight a position he or she no longer holds, at least not in such a “simple” way.
La Voz de Ibiza has contacted Aden and his lawyer to inquire about the reasons for his dismissal, which is not clear if it is due to personal reasons or not related to his performance as a diplomat, as well as to know the implications of the fact and, if any, any formal communication of his departure made by the aforementioned Nation of Hawaii. Both he and his legal representative have refused to provide explanations to this media on these matters. The former Kingdom of Hawaii was annexed to the United States in 1898 by a joint resolution of Congress called the Newlands Resolution. It subsequently became a territory of the United States in 1900, and finally, a state in 1959. Hawaii is not an independent nation but a federated state. Despite this, some local groups defend Hawaiian sovereignty and consider that the annexation was illegal, as is the case of the organization called “Nation of Hawaii” which is led by activist Dennis “Bumpy” Kanahele since 1994. Anyway, Aden’s official website has not been updated yet with the information about his resignation. There, in addition to describing his career as a Hollywood fashion designer, banker and owner of luxurious private clubs (London, Barcelona and Ibiza), he describes his “acts of government” as a minister and shows photos of his diplomatic meetings during a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). One fact is striking: in a section of his website he assures that “he is preparing to take on a new challenge: the post of Consul in Ibiza, Spain”. Will he continue his political career?
