At the traditional Christmas lunch of the PSIB-PSOE in Ibiza, the general secretary, Francina Armengol has launched harsh criticism of the current Balearic government, describing it as “the worst in democratic history”. According to Armengol, the Popular Party and its leader, Marga Prohens, have generated a climate of “chaos, instability and distrust”, pointing directly to its alliance with Vox as the origin of the institutional crisis in the islands.
“It is Prohens who allowed Vox to enter the institutions.”
Armengol spared no words to blame the PP for the current political situation: “The PP has allowed Vox to enter the institutions. It is not an ideological question, but one of pure irresponsibility and incapacity”.
The socialist leader stressed that recent controversial decisions, such as the authorization of construction in flood zones and the acceptance of 34 legislative amendments by Vox, have damaged confidence in the institutions and in the island government.
In addition, he defended the PSIB-PSOE as “the real alternative” for the next elections in 2027, assuring that his party will continue working to “protect the rights of citizens against the legislative nonsense of the current government”.
Criticism of water management and the rental market
The socialist secretary general in Ibiza, Vicent Roselló, also took the opportunity to demand immediate solutions to key problems such as water management and access to housing. Roselló described as “inadmissible” the lack of concrete measures in the face of the threat of water restrictions in 2025, recently raised by the Consell de Ibiza. In relation to the rental market, Roselló urged to regulate prices in Ibiza from 2025, stressing that “access to housing should be a right for all residents”.
Recognition of Josep Marí Ribas
The event included a tribute to Josep Marí Ribas ‘Agustinet’, who bids farewell to active politics after decades of service. Armengol highlighted his legacy and his contribution to the progress of the party, describing him as “a reference of leadership and commitment to citizenship”. With an optimistic message, the socialists of Ibiza closed the event with the conviction that they will be able to “turn the political landscape around” in the next elections, championing more inclusive and sustainable policies.
