The National Police have arrested a 28-year-old man in Palma accused of threatening to kill his ex-partner, repeatedly breaching the restraining order and committing a series of additional crimes, such as robbery, theft and fraud.
The victim, who had denounced the detainee on up to eight occasions for abuse and threats, was included in the VioGén protection system due to the extreme risk posed by her case. For this reason, she was being guarded 24 hours a day by police officers. However, the man, a Dominican national, continued to harass both the woman and her current partner and their child. In his messages, he attached images of guns and bullets, assuring that he was going to kill them all and that he was going to “leave them like a sieve”. On another occasion, he even threatened them with a kitchen knife, increasing the victims’ state of anxiety.
An escalation of threats that culminated in the arrest of the
The detainee not only directed his threats to the victim and her entourage, but also to the agents of the Family and Women’s Attention Unit (UFAM) who were investigating the case. He warned them that he had weapons, bulletproof vests and an “army” ready to intervene if they tried to arrest him. After intensifying surveillance, Public Safety agents managed to locate him early Wednesday morning in a game room in Palma, where he was finally arrested.
Vehicle theft, robberies and swindles
The detainee’s record is not limited to complaints of gender violence. According to police sources, he was being investigated for the theft of rental cars at the Son San Joan airport, with which he later committed burglaries. He is also involved in a scam related to the purchase and sale of high-end vehicles and was arrested for a robbery committed together with another person in the area of Son Vida, in Palma. In addition, he had a court order to be imprisoned for a crime of swindling issued by a Criminal Court of Palma. Last Friday, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the Court of Violence against Women of Palma, accused of breaking the restraining order and the prohibition of communication with his ex-partner, theft, robbery and fraud. Now, it will be the judge who will determine his immediate future.
