This year’s Christmas has brought a story of hope and rescue in the municipality of Sant Antoniwhere the local police responded to a call from a citizen who had found an injured loggerhead turtle floating with difficulty on the surface of Caló des Moro. This young specimen, approximately 40 centimeters, had apparent injuries that prevented him from swimming normally.
Citizen alert and rescue protocol
The discovery took place on the morning of December 25, when a neighbor notified the municipal services of the presence of the turtle in distress. Local police officers immediately went to the scene, following the protocols established for the protection of marine wildlife.
The team contacted the staff of the Marine Species Recovery Center (COFIB), who were in charge of assessing the animal’s condition after its rescue. According to the Sant Antoni City Council, this type of case highlights the importance of acting quickly to preserve the lives of protected species such as the endangered loggerhead sea turtle.
A call for the protection of marine fauna
The turtle was transferred to a safe place where it will receive the necessary care for its recovery. Local authorities have reminded the population of the importance of alerting 112 if marine fauna is found in danger or injured, as these animals are essential for the balance of marine ecosystems.
