The City Council of Ibiza has once again promoted the campaign #JugaroisContrariats to raise awareness about sexism and violence that can be transmitted through toys.
In a statement, from the Consistory have explained that the initiative is carried out at Christmas so that families are aware that they can give their children the toys they want regardless of their gender. This message seeks to break with traditional stereotypes that associate certain toys to boys or girls. The Councilor for Equality, Sara Barbado, stressed that “there is no such thing as games for boys or girls, but it is through play that children and adolescents form their personality and, therefore, this growth should not be limited”.
Fostering respect and creativity
‘#JugaroisContrariats’ aims to raise awareness among citizens about toys that may reproduce stereotypes or be violent. The campaign invites families to opt for options that enhance values such as respect, equality, creativity and cooperation, thus allowing a more comprehensive and equitable development of children. With this initiative, the City Council reinforces its commitment to education in equality from the earliest stages, using Christmas, a time of gift exchange, as the ideal moment to reflect on how toy choices can influence the development of the youngest children.
