The president of the Consell Insular de Ibiza, Vicent Marí, and the mayoress of Sant Joan, Tania Marí, visited today the new traffic circle built at the intersection of Benirràs, Sant Miquel and Sant Joan in the company of the councilor of Mobility, Mariano Juan, and neighbors of the three areas benefited by the new infrastructure.
This work seeks to resolve a historic black spot in the road network, as highlighted by the mayoress. “The intervention was necessary to eliminate a dangerous crossing that affected both residents and visitors,” stressed Tania Marí.
The traffic circle, which initially had a budget of 836,155 euros, was finally awarded for 750,000 euros. In addition, the project included the undergrounding of electrical and communications lines, and improvements in the distribution of desalinated water. The intervention has been completed with new lighting and new safety barriers.
Increased security and institutional collaboration
President Vicent Marí praised the collaboration between administrations, noting that the Consell financed and provided technical support for the work, while the City Council led its execution. “This is an example of how working together benefits all citizens,” said Marí. The new traffic circle, 30 meters in diameter, has replaced an “X”-shaped intersection that presented serious visibility problems and had been the scene of accidents. To complete the work, it was necessary to correct the layout of municipal roads and set up a bus stop in the area.
Benefits for neighbors and visitors
The neighbors celebrate this improvement in road safety, which will also contribute to the development of the area. “Now we can all circulate more safely along this stretch,” concluded the mayoress.
