The Ibiza Town Hall has informed that the Pujada a la Catedral, originally scheduled for this Tuesday, December 31, is suspended due to the yellow alert for rain that affects Ibiza and Formentera. The new date to celebrate the race will be Saturday January 4, keeping the route and schedules previously announced.
Changes without re-registration
The race, which this year celebrates its 42nd edition, had reached an all-time record with more than 1,000 registered runners. The organizers have assured that no new registration will be necessary, and all registered runners will maintain their participation for the new date.
The event will start, as scheduled, at 16:30 hours from the Plaza del Martillo, on the docks of the port of Ibiza. The route of just over two kilometers will end at the Cathedral, where a refreshment area will be set up for runners.
A record that will have to wait
The Pujada a la Catedral, organized by the Ibiza Town Hall in collaboration with the Pitiús Athletics Club and the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands, is a key event in the island’s sports calendar. This year, the high participation promised a spectacular closing for 2024, highlighting the loyalty of the runners and the growing interest in this event.
Categories and awards ceremony
The race categories range from U-12 to masters, covering all ages and skill levels. The awards ceremony will be held in the same Plaza del Martillo, recognizing the top three finishers in each category. Although bad weather has prevented this year’s race from taking place, local authorities have stressed the importance of ensuring the safety of participants and the public. The rescheduling of the event allows to keep the tradition alive and enjoy athletics in a more favorable environment.
