The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has reported the recall of two food supplements, ProIntensey Upotent, from Romania and Turkey respectively, after detecting the undeclared presence of active substances such as tadalafil and sildenafil. These components, commonly used in medicines to treat erectile dysfunction, do not appear on the labeling of the products, posing a significant risk to the health of consumers.
Associated risks and AESAN recommendations
The agency has pointed out that these substances can cause pharmacological effects and adverse reactions of varying severity.
In view of this scenario, the AESAN recommends that those who have these products in their homes should refrain from consuming them. In addition, the competent authorities have been notified to ensure the effective withdrawal of bothfood supplementsfrom marketing channels.
Products concerned and distribution channels
The first product, ProIntense, comes in a package with six 12-gram sachets. Its lot number is 2475010, with a best-before date until March 1, 2027. The second, Upotent, honey sexual stimulant, comes in a package with five 10-gram sachets and has lot number 3741058, with a best-before date until June 30, 2027. Both products should be stored at room temperature. According to AESAN, the initial distribution of these supplements was mainly through e-commerce channels. However, the authorities do not rule out that they have reached the market through other distribution channels, which has led to intensified verifications in the autonomous communities.
Notification and measures
The alert was issued through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI) after being reported by the health authorities of Catalonia. This system allowed AESAN to transfer the information to the autonomous communities to supervise the recall of the affected products.
