La Peña Deportiva has announced the incorporation of Manu Castillo, a 26-year-old central defender, as a new reinforcement for the rest of the season. Coming from Barbastro, a team in Group 2 of Segunda RFEF, the Benidorm native will bring his experience in the category to strengthen the team in the second half of the competition.
Extensive experience in Segunda RFEF and Segunda B.
Manu Castillo has traveled an extensive path in national soccer, starting in teams like Muleño and UCAM Murcia B in Third Division. Subsequently, he made the jump to Segunda B with Yeclano Deportivo, where he was consolidated in the 2020/21 season, participating in 17 matches and accumulating nearly 1,000 minutes of play.
In Segunda RFEF, Castillo has proven to be a reliable defender. In the 2021/22 season he defended the colors of Xerez Deportivo, playing 24 games, and in the 2022/23 season he played for Tudelano and Cerdanyola. This season, with Barbastro, he has been a key player, accumulating more than 1,000 minutes in 15 games, including Copa del Rey matches against Espanyol and FC Barcelona.
A key reinforcement for La Peña
Castillo’s arrival is a confidence boost for Peña Deportiva, who currently occupy 11th place in the Segunda RFEF Group 3 standings. With a constant struggle to stay away from the relegation places, Manu Castillo’s experience and defensive solidity will be vital for the team led by Manolo Gallego. The club expressed their enthusiasm for the incorporation through their social networks: “A lot of security for the Peñista backline! Benvingut a la Peña, Manu! La Peña Deportiva will face the second round of the season with the clear objective of scoring points and consolidate in the category. Castillo joins the challenge with the mission to bring stability in defense and experience in key moments. The debut of the new signing could take place in the next game, where the team will look for a good start in this new stage of the championship.
