La Voz de Ibiza offers a public apology and rectifies the information published last December 25 about the Spanish comedian Aníbal Gómez, member of the musical duo Ojete Calor. In that news item, we erroneously attributed to Gómez a confession about an environmental crime, an act he never committed. We recognize that we were wrong to relate it to an anecdote narrated in episode 220 of the podcast La Ruina, where a participant, and not Aníbal Gómez, confessed to having discharged 70 liters of sewage into the waters of Formentera. In fact, when contacted by La Voz de Ibiza, Gómez has assured that he has never been to Ibiza and, therefore, it is materially impossible to have participated in the illegal fecal discharge erroneously attributed to him.
The error: a confusion
Our publication claimed that Gómez had claimed to be the author of the dump, citing his alleged involvement in the story as his own. However, the story was shared by a participant in the podcast and that Aníbal Gómez has no connection to the events described.
The real facts
In the episode of La Ruina, the guest narrated a personal experience in which, during a sailing vacation in Formentera in 2021, they discharged a tank of sewage directly into the sea. This act was told in a jocular tone and with no intention of generating controversy, although it aroused deep concern in the audience due to its environmental implications. It is important to emphasize that Spanish regulations, based on the MARPOL Convention and Royal Decree 1381/2002, prohibit discharges of this type in protected areas, such as the Ses Salines Natural Park. The actions described in the story represent a serious environmental violation.
Our rectification
We recognize the damage that this confusion may have caused to the image of Aníbal Gómez. For this reason, We reiterate that Gómez is not linked to the incident described in the podcast. Our mistake was due to an error in the identification of the program’s participants, for which we assume full responsibility.
Our commitment
At La Voz de Ibiza, we value integrity and journalistic rigor. This error leads us to reinforce our internal verification and editing processes to ensure that similar events do not happen again. We offer a sincere apology to Aníbal Gómez, our readers and all parties affected by this misunderstanding. We will continue to work with transparency and professionalism to maintain the trust of our audience.
