The hotels in Ibiza and Formentera closed 2024 as absolute leaders in revenue per available room(RevPAR) in Spain, reaching an average of 153.8 euros, according to the report presented by the Alliance for Excellence in Tourism (Exceltur). This data not only positions the Pitiusas as the destination with the highest income, but also places them above reference cities such as Barcelona and San Sebastian. Compared to 2023, the revenue per room in the hotels of the Pitiusas grew by 5.9%, consolidating the island’s position as one of the most profitable tourist destinations in the country.
This increase reflects the facilities’ ability to maintain a high level of demand and attract visitors willing to pay for quality experiences.
Comparison with other islands and destinations
Exceltur data also reveal that revenues per room in Ibiza and Formentera far exceeded those obtained in other islands of the Balearic archipelago. In Minorca, the RevPAR reached 118 euros, while in Mallorca it was 111 euros, evidencing a significant difference in hotel profitability. This leadership is attributed to factors such as the consolidation of a high-end tourist offer, an exclusive natural environment and a promotional strategy focused on quality tourism.
Reduction in the supply of tourist apartments in Ibiza
The Exceltur report also highlights a significant fact: an 11% reduction in the supply of illegally rented tourist apartments in the city of Ibiza. In 2024, the number of places available on tourist rental platforms fell to 2,385, which is 296 places less than the previous year. This decrease contrasts with the general trend in Spain, where most cities experienced an increase in the supply of tourist housing. In addition to Ibiza, only Palma recorded a similar drop, with a reduction of 10.1%.
Expectations for 2025
Looking ahead to next season, Exceltur forecasts a 4.9% increase in tourist arrivals to the Balearic Islands, which could further consolidate the good results recorded in 2024. This growth is expected to have a positive impact on hotel activity, especially in destinations that have managed to position themselves as benchmarks of quality and exclusivity, as is the case of Ibiza and Formentera.
