The Ibiza Town Hall has installed five “pedagogical radars”. Its objective is to “sensitize drivers about speeding”, the municipality has explained. Therefore, although all these devices show on a panel the speed at which vehicles circulate in the area, their records do not serve to sanction.
The new devices, which are still in the testing phase, are located on Avenida Ocho de Agosto, Calle Es Cubells, Calle des Jondal, Avenida de Sant Jordi and Avenida Pere Matutes Noguera. With this initiative, the aim is to inform and raise awareness before fining, as they will serve as a warning to vehicles that they must reduce speed in these specific sections. This is one of the measures promoted during this mandate by the Consistory to improve mobility in the municipality and ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians. Within this framework, last Friday, January 17, the Municipal Traffic Ordinance came into force, which includes a speed limit of 30 km/h in the urban streets of the municipality in order to reduce accidents, offer a more fluid mobility and a reduction in pollution. On the other hand, the Ibiza Local Police has acquired a new pioneering measuring instrument to detect those personal mobility vehicles that exceed the authorized speed.
