Ibiza is getting ready to receive one of the most outstanding events in the international sports calendar. During the 25th, 26th and 27th of April, the island will host the prestigious Open Water World Cup 2025, a competition that will not only attract more than 1,000 swimmers from around the world, but will also be a scoring event for the Los Angeles Olympic Games 2028. The competition will take place entirely in the municipality of Santa Eulària and will have the support of the Consell de Ibiza and the collaboration of the City Council of Santa Eulària. In addition, it will include the Spanish Open Water Championships and the Masters World Cup, consolidating Ibiza as a reference destination for top-level sporting events.
A special launch at FITUR
The official announcement of this event took place at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), at the Ibiza stand, with the participation of Salvador Losa, Sports Councilor of the Island Council; Fernando Carpena, president of the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation; and Candela Sánchez, medalist in the Open Water category. Salvador Losa highlighted the positive impact that this event will have on the promotion of the island as a sports destination. “We have been working since 2020 on a Strategic Sports Plan that seeks to position Ibiza as a benchmark in international sports tourism. This World Cup is an example of the success of that strategy,” said the councilor, who also stressed the key role of the climate, connectivity and hotel infrastructure of Ibiza to attract competitions of this level. For his part, Fernando Carpena highlighted the qualities of the island as an ideal setting for water sports events: “Ibiza combines its tourist attraction with a perfect environment for top-level competitions, and we are confident that this collaboration will mark the beginning of many future projects”.

The mayoress of Santa Eulària, Carmen Ferrer, also participated in the presentation ceremony, highlighting the organizational effort of the municipality to host events of this magnitude. “The potential of Santa Eulària to host high-level sporting events is undeniable. This event highlights our organizational capacity and reinforces our commitment to sport,” said Ferrer.

The Open Water Swimming World Cup 2025 will not only attract elite athletes, but will also put in the international spotlight the unique qualities of Ibiza as a tourist and sports destination. With this competition, the island reinforces its commitment to diversify its tourist offer and consolidate itself as a benchmark in the field of sport.
