The Group of World Heritage Cities, which includes Ibiza, has presented a proposal to the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) to complete the network of Parador Hotels. This initiative seeks to include new establishments in Tarragona, Baeza and San CristĆ³bal de La Laguna, the only cities in the group that do not yet have a Parador.
A strategic proposal for cultural tourism
In the framework of Fitur, the president of the Group and mayor of Santiago de Compostela, Goretti SanmartĆn, handed the official document to Minister Hereu, stressing that completing the network of Paradores would reinforce the prestige and international projection of these cities. The mayor of Tarragona, RubĆ©n ViƱuales, emphasized the importance of this strategic collaboration, pointing out that “the alliance between the Heritage Cities and Paradores is a reference in quality and sustainable cultural tourism”. The president of Paradores, Raquel Sanchez, also participated in the meeting, showing her willingness to work together with the cities to assess the feasibility of this proposal.
New promotion strategies
During the Group’s General Assembly, also held at Fitur, the budget and main actions for 2025 were approved, including the new promotional strategy under the slogan “A journey through time. World Heritage Cities. The path of all”. This approach seeks to attract conscious and responsible tourism, promoting the heritage value that unites these 15 cities. The program includes cultural activities, sporting events and international collaborations, such as the meeting held with the National Association of Mexican World Heritage Cities, in search of synergies and the exchange of best practices in the conservation and promotion of heritage.
Next steps at Fitur
The Group’s agenda at Fitur will continue with visits to the Paradores stand and the official presentation of the international promotion strategy together with TurespaƱa. This event will feature the intervention of the Group’s president and the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosario SĆ”nchez Grau, consolidating the commitment of these cities to the defense and projection of their historical and cultural heritage.
