Two agents of the Citizen Security Unit of the Local Police of Santa Eulària des Riu seized a total of 233 counterfeit items after detecting an alleged commercial transaction in the public parking area of the Santa Eulària market.
The investigation was initiated after witnessing the event, in which a counterfeit high-end watch was intended to be sold for a price ranging from 90 to 110 euros.
The seller had his vehicle with the doors open and a large quantity of bags inside. This led to a search of the car and the discovery of material that appeared to be counterfeits of several well-known brands, replicas or unauthorized reproductions of registered trademarks, as the agents understood that they could infringe industrial property rights.
Given the large volume of items found in the vehicle, two marked police vehicles were needed to transport the seized items to the Santa Eulària police station in order to carry out a thorough inventory.
Once at police headquarters, and after reviewing the seized goods, the agents found that many of the products were very reliable imitations, which made it difficult to distinguish between the genuine product and the counterfeit.
In total, 17 watches, 11 jackets, 2 perfumes, 4 wallets, 55 pairs of sneakers, 15 packs of men’s and women’s underwear, 5 packs of socks, 71 T-shirts, 29 tracksuits and 24 sweatshirts were seized. In view of these facts, the local police decided to open proceedings for a crime against industrial property.
