The PSOE group in the Consell de Ibiza has qualified this Thursday as “categorically false” that the budget of the institution contemplates the necessary funds to guarantee the gratuity of the public transport in 2025, thus denying the statements made by the government team of the Popular Party, led by Vicent Marí. During a press conference, the socialists have pointed out that in the budgets only 900,000 euros are allocated to the free transport cards T-Joven, T-Dorada and T-Plata, but not the 5.5 million euros needed to cover the service in its entirety. Elena López, spokesperson for the PSOE in the Consell, has denounced what she considers “an accumulation of falsehoods and deceptions” by the government team and has stressed that there is no budgetary provision to support the universal free bus next year.
Contradictions and criticism of the PP
Lopez has also criticized the “contradictions” of the PP by claiming to have resources to maintain free public transport while maintaining that the Consell is “underfunded” and can not assume powers such as the guardianship of minors. According to the spokeswoman, these statements reflect “a continuous deception” towards citizens. In addition, he has advanced that the PSOE will present a proposal in the next plenary session to ensure free service with the necessary resources and claim financial support to the Balearic Government. In the meeting with the media also participated the senator Juanjo Ferrer, the councilor Vicent Torres and the deputy Irantzu Fernandez, who have accused the PP of voting against measures of “social and environmental protection” in Congress, such as the revaluation of pensions and free transport.
The response of the PP
For its part, the Popular Party has defended that the free bus service in Ibiza is maintained thanks to the “rebellion” of Vicent Marí in 2022 against the proposal of the central government to make free trains in Mallorca and assume only 70% of the cost of transport in other islands. In a statement, the PP has accused the PSOE of spreading “lies” and has questioned its lack of action to demand from the Executive of Pedro Sánchez commitments such as the road agreement or the full endowment of the insularity bonus. In addition, the PP has pointed out that the PSOE’s statements are part of a political strategy to wear down the insular government team and has affirmed that it will continue working to guarantee the continuity of the free public transport service.
