The Plenary of the Consell Insular de Ibiza has approved this Thursday a motion presented by the popular group to request the Government of Spain to repeal the Royal Decree 933/2021, which obliges accommodation and car rental businesses to register and store information about their customers before providing the service.
The councilor of the Island Park of Services, Youth and Citizen Participation, Marilina Ribas, explained that this regulation means an unbearable workload for companies in Ibiza, especially for small and medium-sized ones. She also pointed out that this requirement is not applied in other European countries, generating a competitive disadvantage for the sector on the island. According to Ribas, the royal decree implies legal uncertainty and is practically impossible to comply with due to its operational complexity. “After speaking with all the agents of the tourism sector affected, we have verified that this regulation seriously harms companies, since it imposes the collection of data before providing the service, something that does not occur in other European countries,” she said. In addition, the councilor pointed out that its entry into force has been postponed three times and that the Congress of Deputies has already requested its withdrawal by absolute majority, which reflects the generalized rejection that this regulation has generated.
Creation of a Corps of Inspectors for Social Rights
It has also given the green light to a socialist motion to assess the creation of a Corps of Inspectors of Social Rights, with the aim of improving the monitoring and enforcement of social policies on the island.
