The tourist overcrowding will again focus the debate in the Parliament of the Balearic Islands this Tuesday, in the first session of the political course. The president of the Government, Marga Prohens, and the vice president, Antoni Costa, will have to answer several questions from the opposition about the limit of tourists on the islands and the controversy surrounding the sustainable tourism tax (ITS).
Discussion on tourist limit and ITS
The deputy of Més per Menorca, Josep Castells, will open the round of questions questioning Prohens on whether the Government “really does something to curb the tourist overcrowding”. He will be followed by the spokesman of Més per Mallorca, Lluís Apesteguia, who will ask for clarifications on what is the annual ceiling of tourists that the autonomic executive considers adequate. For his part, Vice President Antoni Costa will answer to previous questions on the resignation of the Government to increase the ITS, a measure that had been announced by President Prohens herself. He will also have to explain the management of the Sustainability Committee, at a time when the Balearic Islands are approaching 20 million tourists a year.
Other items on the plenary agenda
In addition to tourism, the parliamentary session will address other current issues. The Minister of Tourism, Jaume Bauzà, will assess the recent Fitur fair and its impact on the promotion of the Balearic Islands. The PSIB-PSOE spokesman, Iago Negueruela, will ask Prohens if the Government has a clear project for the future of the Balearic Islands, while the deputy of Vox, Manuela Cañadas, will ask about the possibility of closing the mixed bathrooms in the educational centers, after an incident in Calvià. In the health field, the Councilor of Health, Manuela García, will have to pronounce herself on the situation of the hospital emergencies during the flu campaign and the medical mobilizations in protest against the draft of the Framework Statute of the Ministry of Health.
Housing, education and dependency in parliamentary debate
The plenary will also include questions on measures to reduce the price of housing and the reduction of hours of the subject of Ethical Values and Citizenship in the new educational curriculum. On the other hand, the Socialists will question the Government on its policies of dialogue and participation and will present two motions: one on digital society and another on trade policy. In addition, a non-legislative proposal (PNL) of the PP deputy Cristina Gil will be debated for the recognition of the Algerian route as consolidated and to provide more human and material resources to the Balearic Islands and the State Security Forces in order to deal with the arrival of migrants and mitigate the humanitarian crisis. Another PNL of the PSOE will focus on the need to improve the attention to dependency, especially in the reduction of waiting lists for Home Care and Telecare Services.
