Sant Joan has added a new sports infrastructure with the inauguration of a climbing wall in the municipal sports center, located on the soccer field.
The facility, promoted by the City Council, has had an investment of 48,000 euros, financed through the basic sports agreement of the Consell de Ibiza.
The Conseller of Sports of the Consell de Ibiza, Salvador Losa, and the mayoress of Sant Joan, Tania Marí, have visited this Monday the new climbing wall, highlighting the importance of the project for both the municipality and the island.
A resource for training and leisure
As explained by the mayoress Tania Marí, the installation responds to a demand of the teachers of the Balàfia Institute, where a formative cycle of Sports and Rural Environment is taught.
“They asked us for help to avoid having to travel to other municipalities and we have taken this project forward, which will benefit 20 young people who are taking this training, as well as allowing the families of Sant Joan to enjoy the climbing wall in their free time,” said Marí.
For his part, Councilor Salvador Losa stressed the importance of this type of infrastructure, saying that “it is a good idea and a very good proposal for the municipality and for the sport of the island in general, which now has a climbing wall, something uncommon in Ibiza”.
Investment in sport and the future
This new climbing area is part of a set of improvements to the sports facilities of Sant Joan, for which the City Council had an allocation of 100,000 euros in 2024.
According to Losa, the basic sports agreement of the Consell de Ibiza allows municipalities to improve the quality of their facilities and expand the range of sports available to citizens.
With this climbing wall, Sant Joan expands its sports infrastructure and offers a new healthy leisure alternative for both young people in training and for the rest of the community.
