The Balearic Institute of Infrastructures and Educational Services (Ibisec) has awarded the reform of the annex building of IES Xarc in Santa Eulària, which houses the gym, a laboratory area, a multipurpose room and the bar of the center. The works, awarded to the company Uxcar for 1.002 million euros, will begin in the coming weeks and will have a completion period of eight months, as reported by the Ministry of Education and Universities.
The intervention includes the complete refurbishment of the gymnasium, the locker rooms and bathrooms, the janitor’s house and the roof of the bar. In addition, the interiors of the bathrooms and locker rooms will be renovated, and the false ceiling of the gymnasium will be repaired, thus ensuring the safety of these facilities, which were disqualified at the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year due to their poor condition.
More improvements at IES Xarc and other schools in Ibiza
On the other hand, at the beginning of March, the works for the replacement of slats, exterior carpentry and painting of the facades of IES Xarc, which began in August and have involved an investment of 1.11 million euros, will be completed.
In addition, the Regional Ministry of Education has carried out the replacement of carpentry and shutters in CEIP Can Raspalls (Sant Josep) and CEIP Guillem de Montgrí (Sant Antoni). Both actions, with a cost of 349,447 euros and 254,230 euros respectively, have already been completed and will be received shortly.
At IES Balàfia a new access ramp to the playground has been built and leaks have been repaired, while at IES Isidor Macabich six bathrooms in the main building have been refurbished. The UEECO classroom at CEIP Sant Antoni has also been enlarged, among other improvements, with an overall investment of 250,000 euros.
New projects underway
The territorial director of Education in Ibiza and Formentera, Juan Álvarez, has highlighted the importance of these actions: “For many years, the educational centers of Ibiza have suffered absolute neglect and the intervention of the Conselleria was very necessary to improve them”, he said.
He has also advanced that the bidding process for the new CEIP Santa Eulària, which will allow the creation of 450 new school places, is already underway. Work is also underway on the drafting of the projects for the new IES Can Cantó, the expansion of the IES Quartó de Portmany and the IES Quartó des Rei, as well as the improvement and expansion of the CEIP Sant Carles and Sant Ciriac.
