The CCOO trade union has presented the book ‘Lessons from our grandfathers and grandmothers’, linked to the project ‘Memory in the classroom’ that the organization deploys in the Balearic Islands and aims to claim the wisdom of the elderly and connect generations through experiences and teachings.
The book, the organization explained in a press release, is the result of an innovative educational initiative developed by the teacher Luis Vivas at the Sagrat Cor school in Quart de Poblet (Valencia). The project, which has been running for more than two decades and has been awarded by the Provincial Council of Valencia, has achieved that more than 300 students of 4th of ESO investigate and document the stories of their grandfathers and grandmothers about the Civil War and Franco’s regime. The book is linked to the project ‘Memory in the Classrooms’, with which CCOO of the Balearic Islands brings to secondary schools a didactic unit to work from the tutorials, thus complementing the lack of treatment in the history curriculum on the end of the twentieth century and the recent history of Spain.
