The 112 Emergency Service has activated the Severity Index 0 (IG0) of the Meteobal Plan, corresponding to the yellow alert, for strong winds and coastal phenomena that will affect this Friday to Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The activation responds to the warning issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), which forecasts maximum wind gusts of up to 70 kilometers per hour and waves of up to three meters.
As reported by 112 through its social networks, the adverse weather situation may pose a risk to people and property, so it has asked citizens to exercise extreme caution during the coming hours, follow safety recommendations and call 112 in case of emergency.
In the event of strong winds, the emergency services recommend to avoid standing near stone walls, billboards, light poles and pylons, as well as walking in parks, gardens or tree-lined avenues, where there is a risk of falling branches or other elements. In the domestic environment, it is advisable to close doors and windows and remove flowerpots or objects that may become detached and fall onto the public road.
On the coast, the recommendation is not to access areas affected by waves or places where the waves break strongly. It is also discouraged to approach boardwalks, breakwaters and cliffs, as well as water sports while the storm lasts. In case a person falls into the water, it should be reported immediately to 112 and not lose sight of the exact point to facilitate the intervention of rescue services.
Severity Index 0 is activated when a local adverse weather event is expected to be imminent, with danger to people and property, but which can be controlled by a rapid response at the local level and no major damage is expected.
