Ibiza has been selected as the venue for the III Congress of Easter and World Heritage Cities, which will take place in October 2025. The decision was made at the recent edition of the congress held in Merida, where the 15 cities that are part of the group, recognized by UNESCO, agreed to hold the event annually until 2029. The councilman of Tourism of Ibiza, Ruben Sousa, stressed that this congress will be a unique opportunity to showcase the cultural heritage and processions of the cities that make up the network. Sousa stressed that the meeting will allow to project the diversity and richness of Ibiza’s Holy Week in a national and international context. This initiative, framed in the efforts of the Ibiza Town Hall to position the island as a cultural reference, also seeks to give continuity to the promotion of local traditions beyond the summer tourist season.
Upcoming meetings and impact
The 2025 congress in Ibiza joins a calendar that already has Alcalá de Henares as the venue for the IV edition in 2026. During the closing ceremony of the event in Mérida, the mayor of the city, Antonio Rodríguez Osuna, valued the importance of these meetings as drivers of cultural tourism, highlighting the positive impact of the processions in unique heritage scenarios. This congress will allow Ibiza to become a key scenario for dialogue between culture and tradition, strengthening its role in the network of heritage cities. It will also be a platform to highlight the touristic and artistic value of religious celebrations in an environment recognized for its history and uniqueness.
