The inspector of Tourism of Formentera has issued 17 reports for illegal tourist rentals, as a result of an intensive inspection process initiated since taking office in August 2024. This operation included 288 visits to properties distributed throughout the island, after the selection of 70 cadastral blocks in three different draws, where 10 irregular cases were detected. Additionally, citizen collaboration allowed the identification of seven other cases, completing the total number of complaints. The Conseller of Tourism, Artal Mayans, has valued very positively the management of the first inspector of Tourism in the history of the Consell and has highlighted the importance of this action to deter future infractions. “Our goal is to maintain this pace of work in 2025 to root out illegal practices in the tourist rental sector,” he said. Mayans also urged property owners to opt for residential rentals, assuring that this modality offers greater guarantees for both landlords and tenants.
In this regard, he highlighted the Lloguer Segur program, which seeks to promote long-term rentals, providing institutional support for the collection of monthly rents and ensuring the recovery of the property in good condition at the end of the contract. These initiatives not only seek to bring order to the real estate market, but also to protect the social fabric of the island, promoting sustainable tourism that is compatible with the quality of life of the residents.
