Baleares has reached historic figures in international international tourismThe Balearic Islands received 13,309,496 foreign visitors between January and September 2024, 5.9% more than in the same period of 2023. This increase has generated a remarkable economic impact, with an accumulated expenditure of 17,369 million euros, representing an increase of 12.3% year-on-year, according to data from the Border Tourist Movement Survey (Frontur) of the National Statistics Institute (INE). The month of September was particularly fruitful, with 2,147,685 foreign tourists choosing the Balearic Islands as their destination, 4.2% more than the previous year.
Main destination in Spain
This places the Balearic Islands as the main autonomous community of destination in Spain, attracting 22.4 % of the international visitors who arrived in the country. In addition, the archipelago has led the national tourist expenditure in the same month, concentrating 21.4 % of the total in Spain, reflecting the attractiveness of its offers and services. The average expenditure per tourist in the Balearic Islands has also increased, reaching 1,305 euros per stay, 6% more than last year, while the daily expenditure has risen by 7.8% to 207 euros. However, the data reflect a slight reduction in the length of stay, which has gone to an average of 6.3 days, 1.6% less than in 2023, showing a trend towards shorter visits but with more concentrated spending. In the national context, Spain has registered a record number of international arrivals with 73.9 million tourists between January and September, 10.9% more than the previous year. This flow of visitors has boosted tourism spending in the country, with a total disbursement of 99,086 million euros, an increase of 16.9% and a milestone in the historical series. The main countries of origin include the United Kingdom ( 19.9%), France (13.9%) and Germany (12.7%), consolidating Spain as one of the favorite international destinations.
