This Sunday, the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (Cecopi) of the Generalitat Valenciana has decided unanimously to restrict the access of people to 11 municipalities of Valencia affected by the DANA. As announced by the Councilor for the Environment, Infrastructure and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, the measure responds to the yellow alert forecasts for rain and will come into force after its publication in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV), extending from 00:00 to 23:59 hours. The localities affected by the restrictions are Aldaia, Alaquàs, Picanya, Sedaví, Paiporta, Benetússer, Alfafar, Massanassa, Catarroja, Albal and Beniparrell. Martínez Mus stressed that this limitation will allow a better organization of the rescue work and facilitate security in the affected areas.
Casualty toll and military deployment
The DANA has left, to date, 210 people dead in the Valencian Community, according to the seventh balance of the Emergency Coordination Center. The death toll is still provisional while the identification and recovery of the bodies continues. To deal with this situation, the Government has deployed 3,633 military personnel in Valencia, including 1,992 members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME), who are carrying out search, rescue and recovery of the dead, as well as clearing roads and providing support in affected areas. Additionally, another 690 military personnel are collaborating in logistical and planning functions to ensure the sustenance of operations on the ground.
Weather forecast: alert in several provinces
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated yellow alerts throughout the Valencian Community during Sunday, while Castellón and Tarragona will raise the risk to orange level from noon, with heavy rains and storms forecast. The yellow warning will also be in force in Barcelona, Girona, Teruel and the Region of Murcia, with a special focus on areas such as the countryside of Cartagena and Mazarrón. The Aemet warns of possible heavy showers and thunderstorms on the coast and pre-coastal areas of Catalonia, Valencia and Murcia, and are not ruled out in the Balearic Islands, especially in Menorca. Elsewhere in Spain, a transition to more stable weather is expected.
