Migratory pressure in the Balearic Islands continues to increase with the arrival of a new boat in Formentera. Formentera during the early hours of Thursday morning.
At 04:00 a.m., Salvamento Marítimo intercepted a patera three miles south of the island, in which 12 people of North African origin were traveling, all in apparent good health, as reported by the Government Delegation. This arrival is part of a growing flow of immigrants in the Balearic coasts. Throughout this Wednesday, some 418 people arrived at the islands in about twenty boats. This new interception brings the total number of immigrants rescued to 459 in less than 48 hours, in what represents one of the largest recent waves in the region.
Coordination in Formentera for emergency management
In view of the increase in arrivals in Formentera, the authorities have activated emergency protocols to assist and process new arrivals, while working closely with Salvamento Marítimo and security forces to reinforce coastal surveillance and ensure safety in rescues.
