The Vibra Hotels hotel chain has taken another step forward in its commitment to the environment, consolidating its Triage project for the third consecutive year. This project, launched in 2022, has as its main objective to improve waste management in the rooms of its hotels, promoting a circular economy that minimizes environmental impact.
Local collaboration for project development
With the support of the Department of Environmental Management of the Consell de Ibiza and in collaboration with the non-profit association APFEM AktĆŗa, the company has implemented a segregation system that allows for efficient waste selection and recycling. The corporate director of Vibra Hotels, Silvia Ćlvarez, welcomed the APFEM AktĆŗa workers who have joined the project, underlining the importance of an alliance that promotes not only care for the environment, but also labor inclusion. According to Roberto GonzĆ”lez, head of PRL and environmental sustainability, “The Triaje project arises with the intention of going a step beyond compliance with environmental legislation in the Balearic Islands, implementing a high impact project”.
Expansion of the project in 2024
Since its inception, the project has undergone significant expansion. In its launch year, Triage was implemented in three hotels in Ibiza: Vibra Mare Nostrum, Vibra Bossa Flow and Vibra Isola. By 2024, the number of participating hotels has doubled, also integrating Vibra Jabeque Dreams, Vibra Jabeque Soul, Vibra Sanan, Vibra Central City and Vibra Riviera. This increase has enabled the hiring of 13 people from APFEM AktĆŗa, twice as many as in 2022, and has achieved a 29% increase in waste disposed and recycled compared to the data from the first years.
A comprehensive sustainability plan
The Triaje project is part of Vibra Hotels’ Sustainability Master Plan, which focuses on three key areas: energy efficiency, waste management and circular economy. In addition to reducing the use of diesel by opting for natural gas, improvements have been made in LED lighting and a digitalization of supply consumption. In waste management, Vibra Hotels has installed clean points and has promoted environmental training and awareness for all its staff. With its 33 establishments in the Balearic Islands and a consolidated sustainability model, Vibra Hotels is positioned as a leader in environmental commitment in the region, backed by certifications such as Green LAB, Ecostars and Biosphere, as well as its participation in the global Tourism and Plastics initiative.
