The Association of Nautical Industries and Services of Ibiza and Formentera (AISNEF) has issued a strong warning on the need to change the concession model of the marina Marina Botafochwhose current concession expires in March 2025. The sector warns that continuing with current practices, which prioritize short terms and criteria based solely on the fee, puts at risk the quality and sustainability of this key infrastructure for nautical tourism in Ibiza. AISNEF has pointed out that short-term concessions have led to a significant deterioration of the port facilities. According to the association, this situation negatively affects both the attractiveness of the port and the competitiveness of Ibiza as a reference destination in the nautical sector. “We need a model that not only looks at the economic canon, but that values the quality of the projects, guarantees solid investments in infrastructure and ensures proper maintenance,” they have claimed from the entity.
Proposals for a sustainable port
The association is committed to a more balanced concession model that contemplates reasonable deadlines and an approach based on the quality of the projects presented. In this way, they explain, a sustainable development of the port and the continuity of economic activity for the many companies that depend on Marina Botafoch could be guaranteed. AISNEF has made a direct appeal to the Balearic Port Authority, urging that decisions be taken to modernize and optimize the port’s facilities. “It is essential to bet on an approach that benefits both users and workers of a key industry for our region,” they conclude from the association.
