The Consell de Formentera has sent a detailed letter to the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) with a series of proposals agreed upon by the island’s political parties. These recommendations seek to guide upcoming decisions on the remodeling of the port of La Savina and new tenders, with the aim of ensuring a balanced and respectful development with the natural environment.
Two docks and social nautical activities: port development axes
Among the key proposals presented by the Consell is the creation of two docks for recreational boating, a measure that would promote competition and improve conditions for users and operators. It is also requested to give priority in the specifications to aspects such as the quality of projects and the level of investment, thus ensuring modern and efficient infrastructure. A crucial point is the incorporation of sustainability criteria in the design of the port, given that it is located within the Natural Park of the Salt Flats of Ibiza and Formentera. In this sense, the Consell insists on preserving the ecological balance of the island and attracting more responsible tourism.
Urban integration and affordable rates
Another of the Consell’s demands is that a better integration between the port and the urban center be contemplated, taking into account the social, economic and landscape impact that this infrastructure has for the island. In addition, it has been requested that the rates of moorings and commercial premises are accessible, favoring both individuals and local businesses. The promotion of social nautical activities is a top priority, with a call to allocate the highest possible percentage of moorings to boats up to 8 meters in length, thus facilitating access to the sea for the local community.
Strategic infrastructures and vision for the future
Among the suggestions for the remodeling, the Consell proposes the creation of specific spaces for large boats and excursions, the construction of a parking lot with a capacity proportional to the moorings, and the creation of areas for the Guardia Civil del Mar and Maritime Rescue, essential to ensure safety in the waters of Formentera. Finally, the document also proposes a medium and long-term concession model to guarantee the stability of the project and encourage sustainable and innovative investments.
