The Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will deal this Wednesday with a case that puts at the center of the debate the drug trafficking in Ibiza. Nine people are accused of managing a network dedicated to the cultivation, production and distribution of cannabis between November 2022 and April 2023. They face sentences totaling 45 years in prison and fines reaching 3 million euros.
An operation extending to Santa Gertrudis and Santa Eulària
According to the investigation, the accused allegedly used properties in Santa Gertrudis and Santa Eulària, as well as a cannabis store, as strategic points for their illegal activities. The authorities seized more than 26 kilos of cannabis, with an estimated value of 160,000 euros on the illicit market. Each of the defendants faces up to five years in prison and a fine in excess of €300,000. This case not only reflects the complexity of trafficking networks in Ibiza, but also the challenge of combating this type of crime on an island facing high seasonal demand. The trial, which is still in its preliminary phase, will seek to determine the responsibilities of each defendant in a case that has generated concern among the authorities and the local population.
