The Forests in Action program, promoted by Regenera Natura, has started in Ibiza with a workshop aimed at young people from APNEEF (Association of People with Special Needs of Ibiza and Formentera). The activity, held last weekend, is part of the environmental education project that aims to raise community awareness of the climate crisis and the importance of forests in the Balearic archipelago. As part of APNEEF’s Leisure and Respite program, participants had the opportunity to connect with nature and explore Ibiza’s natural environment. According to Joan Antoni Ortiz Alemany, coordinator of the program, this experience was a milestone for the young people: “This is the first time we have participated in an initiative of this kind. All of them have felt nature, taking an important step towards understanding their relationship with the natural environment”. Clara Cano, director of Bosques en Acción, highlighted the active involvement of the participants in the workshop, who learned to identify local flora and fauna and understand basic environmental processes. Cano expressed her satisfaction with the activity, noting that “it has planted in them a seed of understanding and environmental care that will last over time”.
A comprehensive approach for the entire community
The Forests in Action program is not only aimed at young people and families, but also includes training activities for companies. According to Cano, “for there to be a relevant impact, all agents must be involved in the environmental process, regardless of our age.” This comprehensive approach seeks to foster a stronger connection with nature, promoting sustainable habits and respect for biodiversity at all levels of society.
Next steps of the program
Over the coming weeks, the project will continue with more workshops and practical activities designed to raise awareness among the Ibiza and Formentera community about the importance of conserving terrestrial ecosystems. In addition, specific training will be offered for companies, with the aim of understanding current climate challenges and adopting measures that contribute to environmental sustainability.
