The pine forest of Es Gorg, located near the E-10 road, has been the scene of an important cleaning and environmental regeneration operation by the Ibiza Town Hall. This space, degraded by accumulations of waste and illegal settlements, presented serious fire risks and health problems. There were about 25 people living in the area, who were informed in advance about the tasks to be carried out. Thanks to this warning, the eviction could be carried out without incident, leaving the huts and tents abandoned. The social services of the City Council offered to support those affected, although so far they have not received any requests for help. The alderman of gardens, Manuel JimƩnez, stressed that this work was essential to ensure the safety of both the environment and the people living in the vicinity. He also stressed the potential of the pine forest as a space for public enjoyment once the regeneration work had been completed.
More than 30 tons of waste collected
The clean-up operation, carried out on Monday, November 18, involved a team of gardeners, clean-up workers and local police officers, supported by heavy machinery such as backhoes and shredders. During the first days, more than 30 tons of waste were removed, including flammable materials such as gas cylinders, wood and dry vegetation. It is expected that at the end of the work, the total volume of waste will reach 80 tons. The Es Gorg pine grove, which had not been maintained for years, is strategically located near Ses Feixes and has ample shaded areas. According to the City Council, this intervention not only improves the safety of the area, but also lays the groundwork for turning this space into a public area for leisure and enjoyment of citizens in the near future.
