The Consell de Formentera has informed that the deficiencies in cell phone and data coverage that have affected residents and visitors to the island in recent days will be resolved on Friday morning. The affected companies, Movistar and Vodafone, pointed out that the main cause of the problem is a technical intervention in the reception tower of Sant Francesc, managed by American Tower. According to the tower owner, the works consist of a structural reinforcement that has required the temporary dismantling of the antennas and radio links installed on the tower. This has caused significant interruptions in calls and mobile Internet access, which has caused discomfort among users on the island.
Consell demands better communication from operators
The Consell Insular has urged telephone operators to inform in advance about this type of interventions, given the great impact they have on connectivity in a territory so dependent on this service. The institution stressed the importance of planning that allows residents and businesses on the island to prepare for possible inconveniences.
Service restored on Friday
The companies have assured that coverage will be fully restored in the coming hours, and the work on the Sant Francesc tower will be completed without further delay. The Consell Insular will continue monitoring the situation to avoid future similar incidents and guarantee the quality of the connectivity service in Formentera.
