After the six people arrested yesterday six people arrested for integrating a cell of the Islamic State were brought to court yesterday, the National Police has provided details of the operation carried out last week by the Moroccan and Spanish police, which ended with the arrest of a terrorist in Ibiza. “The detainees, recidivists in some cases, were fully adhered to the terrorist organization DAESH from whose official and pseudo-official channels they consumed and shared content, many of great crudeness and violence,” they detail. This investigation was initiated in the middle of the year 2023 when the agents detected a group of people, highly radicalized, who used social networks to, allegedly, visualize and share filoyihadist audiovisual content. After the appropriate monitoring, the agents found that the detainees “deployed a belligerent jihadist activity, with direct threats to the Western population and the Jewish community, and incited the commission of violent actions”. Likewise, the agents detected manifestations showing their intention to move to combat zones on the African continent, controlled by factions of terrorist organizations.
Collaboration with DGST Moroccan
In parallel, agents of the Moroccan Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST) have arrested three other people in the town of Castillejos, bringing the total number of detainees to nine. From the National Police remarked that “the collaboration with the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire has been key to the success of this operation, allowing to dismantle a structure that operated in the Ceuta-Castillejos axis, and of which were part highly radicalized individuals, adhering to the postulates of the terrorist organization DAESH and willing to carry out violent actions”. “With this, the agents consider that a real danger for the security of both countries has been neutralized”, they pointed out.
To prison
Yesterday, the six detainees were handed over to the Central Court of Instruction Number One of the Audiencia Nacional, who ordered the all of them were sent to prison.
The operation, which has been carried out by agents of the General Information Commissariat of the National Police, has had the collaboration of the Provincial Information Brigades of Ceuta, Segovia, Malaga, and Madrid and the Local Information Brigades of Ibiza and Algeciras, all under the direction of the Central Court of Instruction Number One and the Prosecutor’s Office of the National High Court. In addition, at the international level, it has had the support of the EUROPOL Agency.
