The health emergency technicians of the public company Gestión Sanitaria y Asistencial de Baleares (GSAIB) have demonstrated this Wednesday in front of the Can Misses Hospital in Ibiza, denouncing the “abandonment” and the “false promises” of both the company and the administration. The workers, backed by the CCOO and USAE unions, have expressed their discomfort at the failure to comply with signed agreements, such as the payment of the difficult-to-cover bonus, and have pointed out a series of labor irregularities that directly affect their professional work.
The unfulfilled promise of the bonus
The protesters point out that, although GSAIB promised months ago to pay the difficult coverage bonus to some of the workers, this promise has not yet been fulfilled. In addition, they denounce that this payment excludes the 38 technicians in charge of non-urgent scheduled transfers, despite the fact that the service has never reached full operational coverage. According to José Manuel Romero, CCOO union delegate, this exclusion is based on the professional classification of these technicians as mere transporters, a label they consider inadequate and denigrating for professionals with specialized health training. “The Servei de Salut is in breach of the agreements it itself signed in the Court of Arbitration and Mediation. They should resign en bloc,” said Romero forcefully in a dialogue with Radio Ibiza.
Working conditions and complaints
In addition to the problems with the bonus, the technicians accuse GSAIB of lack of transparency and irregular labor practices. According to José Manuel Maroto, USAE delegate, the administration hires these professionals in “fraud of law”, assigning them a degree that does not correspond to the professional category established in the sector agreement. The situation is aggravated by the impossibility of accessing the employees’ contracts, which the unions describe as an unacceptable lack of transparency for a public company. The technicians also criticize the increase of more than 11,000 euros in the salary of the service manager, Javier Ureña, while they still do not receive the promised allowances.
