The City Council of Sant Josep has presented its budget proposal for the year 2025, which reaches 54.7 million euros, an increase of 9.64% over the previous year. This increase seeks to respond to the needs of a municipality in constant growth, as explained by Mayor Vicente Roig during the presentation. Despite its presentation, the budget still requires final approval.
More investment in personnel and security
One of the highlights is the increase in personnel spending, which amounts to 14.5 million euros, 13.13% more than in 2024. This increase will allow the creation of 29 new positions, including 12 for the Local Police, which will bring the body’s staff to 70 agents. In addition, the Town Planning department will be reinforced with the incorporation of architects, administrative staff and a lawyer, with the aim of speeding up files and adapting to new regulations.
45% increase in investments
The investment chapter includes an item of 5.8 million euros, earmarked for key projects such as the improvement of the road network, sanitation and sports facilities. Among the most outstanding actions are the renovation of the Ca na Parra sewage collector, the resurfacing of the Platges de Comte road and the drafting of projects for new sports centers in Sant AgustĆ and es Cubells.
Increased revenues and new fees
The City Council estimates revenues of 19.3 million euros, driven by the implementation of new fees related to waste management and the increase in traffic fines following the installation of surveillance cameras at the airport. In addition, revenues are expected from permanent and seasonal cab licenses, as well as beach concessions and bank deposits.
A budget that seeks balance
Mayor Roig stressed that these budgets seek an “orderly and planned” growth to serve a population that exceeds 30,000 inhabitants. For her part, the councilor of Economy, Nieves Bonet, stressed the importance of ensuring financial sustainability, while the councilor of Works and Housing, Vicent Torres, noted that investments prioritize urgent needs in basic infrastructure. However, the approval process is still pending, in which the municipal groups will have the opportunity to debate and raise amendments before the budgets become a reality for next year.
