For the second time in a few years, senior officials of the political group Gent per Formentera have to face an oral trial for a criminal investigation. Now, as La Voz de Ibiza advanced, four of its representatives will have to sit in the dock for the investigation of rigging for the appointment of firefighters collaborators of the Consell Insular, with the sole purpose of favoring the son of one of their own.
Two of these four will repeat in front of the Provincial Court Section No. 1 in Palma. The former insular president, Jaume Ferrer Ribas, and the current secretary general of the party, Sonia Cardona Ferrer, were also accused in the Punta Prima case, for the crimes of administrative prevarication, disobedience, falsehood, infidelity in the custody of documents and coercion. In the trial, Ferrer was acquitted, while the charges against Cardona were dropped.
More involved
In addition to Ferrer and Cardona, in the case of the firefighter plugged in, also charged are Silvia Tur Ribas and Isidor Torres Mayans.
The judge decided to bring the four to trial, despite the fact that the prosecution had requested the dismissal of Cardona and Torres Mayans “not having been proven that they had a direct participation in the events described in the first conclusion, nor had control or dominion of the fact, therefore there is no evidence of unlawful activity and the presumption of innocence of both cannot be enervated”. For this reason, the prosecutor requested in his brief for the two defendants the penalty of 12 years of special disqualification for public employment or office and for the exercise of the right to passive suffrage. For its part, the private prosecution has taken the sentence to 9 years for the four defendants. While it also requests for Isidor Torres three years in prison, a fine of six months and special disqualification for a period of 2 years for the crime of false documentation.
