Albert Salas, general director of IB3 since November 2023, has confirmed that he has not submitted his resignation, although he admits to be evaluating his continuity at the head of the Balearic public broadcaster. “The exit is in my head, it is true, but IB3 is above all,” said Salas through a message on his profile on the social network X (formerly Twitter) disseminated from the official accounts of the Balearic public broadcaster.
Rumors of his resignation
The information, published by Europa Press, indicated that Salas plans to formalize his departure at the beginning of 2025. This comment comes after a year marked by internal management challenges and the personal exhaustion of the director, who said he had conveyed his tiredness to the team: “It has been an exhausting 2024 and I need to reflect on the future”. Several media had advanced during the afternoon of Friday that the manager had moved to his circle of confidence his firm intention to leave the position. Government sources quoted by Ultima Hora expressed their surprise at the news. They only confirmed that the journalist had a pending conversation with the president of the Govern, Marga Prohens. In view of the relief, it is assumed that the reason was to tell her of his decision to abandon the ship.
Track record and appointment
Salas was proposed for the position by the PP of the Balearic Islands, obtaining the support of a large majority in the Parliament in the second round, although without the support of the PSIB. Before assuming the direction of IB3, the executive had more than 12 years of experience in IB3 Televisió and a recent stint as Communication Director of Real Club Deportivo Mallorca.
A year full of challenges
Salas’ first year at the helm of IB3 has been marked by challenges related to the management of the public broadcaster, the adaptation to new digital formats and the search for balance between political demands and audience needs. Although Salas has not given a specific date for a possible departure, his message hints that accumulated fatigue will be a key factor in his decision.
