The Legionnaires of the Legion Brigade Headquarters Flag will join this Thursday, a public holiday in the city, to the events for the 533rd anniversary of the Taking of Granada, commemorating the entry of the Catholic Monarchs in the Alhambra on January 2, 1492. Coming from Almeria, the military will participate in a civic-religious function and the traditional tremolation of the banner of Castile in the Royal Chapel and the City Hall of Granada. The event, organized with the support of the City Council and the Archbishopric, will have as protagonists the mayor of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, who will carry the sword of King Ferdinand, and the socialist councilor Raquel Ruz, in charge of carrying the royal standard. The ceremony in the Cathedral will include the consecration of the banner and its transfer to the Royal Chapel, following a protocol coordinated with the Archbishopric. In parallel, the platform Granada Abierta will carry out the event “For coexistence, no to the Toma”, with activities in the Plaza de Mariana Pineda. Among the proposals are the presentation of the book Crónica de una polémica, by Paco Vigueras, and artistic performances. According to the platform, this celebration seeks to vindicate a more inclusive festivity, considering that the current commemoration fosters divisions and promotes an excluding historical perspective.
