The World Rice Contest of Matanzas is back in Sant Antoni Sant Antoni this coming February 1, framed within the festivities of the municipality. This event, already consolidated as one of the most important gastronomic events in Ibiza, will bring together local and mainland teams in a day of tradition, culture and flavor.
On-site registration and limited places
The registration period to participate in the contest will open on Tuesday, January 14 at 9:00 am in the establishment Es Clot, located at Carrer Ample, 15. Places are limited, and the application can only be made in person, which predicts a high demand due to the success of previous editions. Each team can be composed of a maximum of 15 people, who will have to cook their own “arroz de matanzas“, a traditional dish of Ibizan gastronomy. The event will also have a festive atmosphere that will include music, entertainment, ball pagès and the awards ceremony, where the top three will receive lots of typical products and the winner, a steel sculpture as a trophy.
Junior Contest: the highlight of the schools
One of the most recent developments and that remains in this edition is the World Rice Contest Matanzas Junior, aimed at raising funds for field trips for students in 6th grade Primary and 4th ESO. This contest will be held on Friday January 31 in the Plaza de s’Era d’en Manyà from 11:00 am. The teams, made up of a maximum of 15 students and accompanied by adults (family members, teachers or members of parents’ associations), will compete for cash prizes: 750 euros for first place, 500 euros for second place and 250 euros for third place. Participants must provide the necessary ingredients and utensils to prepare at least one kilo of rice, and will be invited to a breakfast courtesy of the organization.

The Matanzas World Rice Competition is more than a gastronomic competition; it is a celebration of Ibiza’s culinary tradition that encourages community participation.
