The CEO of ACS, Juan Santamaría, announced at the Spain Investors Day that the company has developed land in Spain with permits and network access to build and operate data centers with an estimated investment of 12,000 million euros over a period of 5 to 7 years. Madrid, Alcalá de Henares and Zaragoza are the locations chosen for this ambitious project that seeks to position the country at the forefront of digital technology. Sources close to the company have detailed that this development is part of a global strategy that contemplates 60,000 million euros in investments to build data centers with a capacity of 1.3 gigawatts (GW), distributed in the United States, Australia and Spain, which represents 20% of the total. These facilities will create approximately 30,000 jobs, including 11,000 during their operation phase. Santamaría stressed that the group continues to focus on digital infrastructure without abandoning its focus on traditional projects. He also warned that legislative bottlenecks in Europe may slow down technological and artificial intelligence initiatives.
However, he highlighted Spain’s capacity to lead in this field, thanks to its extensive fiber optic network, favorable conditions for renewable energy and a solid market. “Spain already generates 24% of its GDP in high-tech sectors, with 1.7 million workers, which confirms its potential to attract strategic investments,” said Santamaría. Apart from the consolidated land, the company has another 1.7 GW of land under development globally, which will further expand its investment and operating capacity.
