A total of 12,461,827 people traveled to the Balearic Islands last year, 7.96% more than in 2023, and 63,135,090 overnight stays were recorded, an increase of 6.29%.
According to the Hotel Tourism Situation data published Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the average stay of travelers in tourist accommodation on the islands was 5.07 days, lower than the average of 5.15 days of the previous year. In addition, the archipelago received 100,207 travelers last December, 57,073 of them foreigners, and 297,915 overnight stays were recorded, 215,244 by non-residents. Andalucía, Cataluña and Comunitat Valenciana were the main destinations for resident travelers in Spain in 2024, with rates of variation in the number of overnight stays of -1.4%, -4.2% and 2.9%, respectively. The main destination chosen by non-residents was the Canary Islands, with 26.3% of total overnight stays, while the following destinations were the Balearic Islands (23.9% of the total) and Catalonia (18.2%). In addition, the island of Mallorca was the tourist area with the most overnight stays, with 49.5 million, and the tourist spots with the most nights in hotels and tourist accommodations were Barcelona, Madrid and San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
Increased profitability
As for the profitability of the sector, the average daily turnover of hotels per occupied room (ADR) in the country was 121.5 euros, which in the case of the Balearic Islands amounted to 145.6 euros, up 6.1%. The average daily revenue per available room (RevPAR) in Spain averaged 84.6 euros, which in the islands was 118.4 euros, a year-on-year increase of 8 %.
