The Consell de Ibiza has announced the launch of a public online system that allows to check if an accommodation or tourist activity has the necessary legal registration. The initiative, presented by the Department of Tourism Management, seeks to intensify the fight against illegal supply, facilitate the detection of irregularities and promote regulated tourism on the island. This portal provides users with information on the legally authorized tourism offer, which includes accommodations such as hotels, apartments, campsites, holiday homes and rural tourism. It also includes complementary activities such as travel agencies, leisure boats, active tourism and restaurants.
Key tool in the fight against tourism intrusion
The Councilor for Tourism Management, Mariano Juan, explained that this tool is an important step to combat intrusiveness in the sector and protect both tourists and legal businesses. “It is a measure that allows any interested party to verify whether an establishment is operating within the law, helping us to detect activities outside the regulations,” he said. Since the creation of the Office for Combating Intrusiveness in 2019, the Consell de Ibiza has led several initiatives to regulate the sector and reduce illegal supply, consolidating its position as one of the Mediterranean destinations most committed to tourism transparency.
Public consultation and whistleblowing
The system not only facilitates access to information for tourists, but also allows owners to review and update the data registered about their businesses. If errors are detected, business owners may request corrections directly on the portal. Likewise, citizens will be able to report irregularities through a form on the official website of the Consell, strengthening citizen collaboration in the fight against illegal supply.
A safer and more transparent tourism model
With this initiative, the Consell seeks to ensure quality tourism and legality in Ibiza, protecting both visitors and businesses that operate within the regulations. This system, which is in its initial phase, will allow the collection of key data to identify establishments outside the law, reinforcing the existing control mechanisms.
