In the vicinity of Cala d’Hort and Es Vedrà, two vans have blocked a neighborhood road for hours, preventing the passage of residents’ vehicles. This incident, reported by neighbors and notified to the Local Police of Sant Josep, has been reported directly to La Voz de Ibiza, along with photographs showing the obstruction. This fact adds to a long list of problems associated with tourist overcrowding in the area. The blockage of this road is just one side of a conflict that has escalated over the years. The area, considered one of Ibiza’s natural jewels, has been the victim of multiple incidents of overcrowding, disorderly parking and vandalism. A few days ago, vehicles parked in the area appeared with graffiti and damage, causing outrage among residents and visitors.
However, neighbors point out that the problems do not end there. “People leave their cars in the middle of neighborhood roads, blocking the way of residents who pay taxes and should not have to put up with this situation,” says one affected person, who sent photographs to evidence the problem.
A problem of management and lack of control
The area has barriers installed by the municipality of Sant Josep to limit unauthorized vehicular traffic. However, these measures have not been sufficient. Residents acknowledge that, even before the installation of these barriers, the roads were completely overrun by vehicles, to the point that neither ambulances nor firefighters could access them in case of emergency. Residents are calling for more forceful action by the authorities to protect both their quality of life and the natural environment. “No one’s cars should be painted, but neither is it fair to obstruct the passage on roads leading to our homes. There are no services or infrastructure to support this load of visitors,” they add. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7jUQV2NmGo
