The campaign of control of alcohol and drugs at the wheel developed by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) and the Local Police of Sant Josep has left figures that concern the authorities: of the 238 vehicles checked, 28 drivers tested positive, 17 for alcohol consumption and 11 for the presence of drugs. The percentage of positives thus rises to 11.8%, a figure that the City Council describes as a “call for reflection”.
From the consistory it is reminded that “this is not about numbers, it is about lives”, appealing to public awareness to curb this dangerous behavior. Driving under the influence of psychoactive substances poses a serious risk to both the driver and other road users.
A campaign with worrying results
The controls are part of the state campaign promoted by the DGT, in which local security forces participate. In Sant Josep, the agents carried out random controls over several days, with the aim of detecting and preventing dangerous behavior.
“Before getting behind the wheel, think about the responsibility it entails”, reminds the municipal message. In addition, the Local Police insists: “If you have been drinking or taking drugs, DO NOT drive”, appealing to common sense and responsibility.
Driving under the influence: a crime and a threat
The presence of alcohol or drugs while driving can lead to administrative or even criminal sanctions, depending on the degree of intoxication. In Spain, the limit of alcohol in exhaled air for general drivers is 0.25 mg/l, and driving under the influence of drugs is completely forbidden, regardless of the substance.
The City Council of Sant Josep has expressed its commitment to road safety, reinforcing prevention and control campaigns, especially during times of high mobility such as the Christmas holidays.
“Every decision counts,” stresses the campaign, which seeks to prevent avoidable tragedies with a direct message: the difference between a night to remember or one to regret is in our hands.
