The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for strong winds and coastal phenomena, which will affect Ibiza and Formentera from 08.00 hours this Friday and will last until Saturday at the same time.
The arrival of a mass of air of arctic origin has left this week a sharp drop in temperatures on both islands. The dawn of Thursday became the coldest of the last days, with 6ºC registered in Sant Joan de Labritja, the lowest minimum value of the week in the archipelago.
The forecast details that gusts from the north and northeast are expected to reach 70 km/h, as well as a sustained wind of between 50 and 60 km/h (force 7) on the coast, which will generate a swell of up to three meters. In view of these conditions, extreme caution is recommended in exposed areas and maritime activities should be avoided.
However, from Sunday onwards, the trend points to a slight rise in temperatures, both in minimum and maximum temperatures.
In the Balearic Islands as a whole, the irruption of arctic air will leave instability, humidity and showers, with the possibility of thunderstorms and small hail. In the Serra de Tramuntana, the forecasts even contemplate the appearance of snow at the highest altitudes.
